As someone who has been so desensitized by the news of what is currently happening in the world, working with The Orphan Trust truly opened my eyes and broke my heart. Being someone whose luxuries have become necessities, it brought me dismay to see the orphans of Kerbala not having access to their basic necessity, food.

The whole experience of delivering food to these families was extremely shocking. Many of these widows do not have the abilities to feed their children, and I have gained an overwhelming respect for these women who have persevered despite these hardships.

My heartache at all the difficulties surrounding these children were slowly relieved as they grew smiles on their faces once their monthly ration had been delivered. It made me grateful, that I could be a part in helping those children live their lives, and not let them go hungry once again.

As a society, we should not only recognize these difficulties, but take action. We aren’t just feeding these families, we are providing them with hope and happiness for the future. A small donation can go extremely far, and will keep these children happy, healthy and never hungry.
