Food rations to transform lives

The Orphan Trust began supplying a nourishing monthly food
ration to 24 needy orphan families in February 2018. We are now
catering to 300 families in and around the city of Kerbala in Iraq
every month.

To increase our reach to 500 families we have taken a warehouse
near the city and with the Grace of Allah swt, our target for 2019 is
to serve 1,200 orphan families each month.

With full stomachs, children are best able to thrive at school, learning the skills they need to earn the income to lift themselves and their families out of poverty.

Each food ration contains:

Our unique approach

Our approach is dignified, systematic and transparent.

Dignified

All food parcels are delivered to the needy on their doorstep in a dignified and noble manner. Families have a number to call the Trust if a parcel does not arrive the week it is due. This empowers them and underlines our duty of care to provide their ration.

Systematic

We began by personally delivering the food directly to orphan families and we have now created a system of distribution to deliver every month without fail. Families know it is their right to receive their ration in a systematic way.

Transparent

We create a file for each family with the name, photograph and essential information about each child. Digitizing these files to create a comprehensive database ensures full transparency and avoids duplication.

Best value for every dollar

We have already negotiated better prices with our wholesaler so that each US$50 buys more food for every family without compromising on quality.

Since we launched we have made our budget stretch much further so that today we are providing 40% more food on a monthly basis for every orphan family.
